New Albin is a city in Iowa Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, United States. It is the farthest northeast town in Iowa, located on the Mississippi River and the Minnesota border. The population was 527 at the 2000 census.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 527 people, 226 households, and 139 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,390.8 people per square mile (924.9/km²). There were 247 housing units at an average density of 1,120.5 per square mile (433.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.15% White, 1.14% Native American, 0.19% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.57% of the population.
There were 226 households out of which 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.1% were non-families. 34.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
